Five Year Integrated Pharmacy Degree Programme

To become eligible to apply for registration as a pharmacist in Ireland, the national qualification that you must complete is a five-year Master’s degree programme in pharmacy (MPharm), which is accredited by the PSI.

Practice placements are integrated and dispersed throughout the five years of the MPharm programme. Placements of varying durations are available in practice settings such as community, hospital, industry and 'role-emergent' practice settings. The MPharm includes placements in community and hospital pharmacies during second, fourth and fifth year and placements in industry and ‘role-emergent’ practice areas (health service, regulatory etc) in the fourth year.  

APPEL 

Placements for the five-year programme are managed by Affiliation for Pharmacy Practice Experiential Learning (APPEL). APPEL was established by the three Schools of Pharmacy in Ireland to manage and centralise the learning placements for students from each of the schools. APPEL also offers placement providers a single point of contact, training, support and they welcome pharmacists interested in providing a student placement, no matter the area of pharmacy practice. Tutors and the five-year Master's degree programme 

Practising pharmacists provide supportive learning and training opportunities for pharmacy students to gain the knowledge, skill and attitudes required to be a competent pharmacist. Tutor pharmacists also act as role models to inspire, mentor and instil confidence.
