The PSI Registrar, Joanne Kissane, in her capacity as Returning Officer, invites nominations from those on the PSI Register of Pharmacists for appointment to the PSI Council. Pharmacists are asked to consider if they have the experience, interest and time to give to this important public service role.

There will be five vacancies to be filled as current pharmacist Council members complete their terms of office in June. Nominations must be submitted to the PSI Returning Officer no later than midday on Wednesday, 19 March 2025. If more nominations are received than the five available vacancies, an election will be held on 16 April.

The Council is the governing body of the PSI. The 21 members, all appointed by the Minister for Health to act in the interests of patients and the public, are collectively responsible for the delivery and implementation of the regulator’s strategy and for ensuring that the PSI fulfils its statutory remit. The Council is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and pharmacist members make up 10 of the 21 members.

The PSI has commenced implemention of a new strategy, which comes at an interesting time for pharmacy and healthcare in Ireland. It is imperative that the Council has a diverse range of voices and experiences available to it, to ensure objective scrutiny, good governance, and decision-making that places patient and public safety at its centre. The PSI is keen to see that the Council is representative of society, which in turn reflects the diversity of the Pharmacist Register, which currently stands at over 7,700 pharmacists.
