Paula Barry Walsh

Dr Paula Barry Walsh, PSI Council member

Paula's career spanned over 30 years in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). She was Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer for 9 years, her responsibilities across the One Health, One Welfare spectrum focused on development of policy, strategic leadership and business delivery. Her experience has given her a  thorough understanding of organisational and regulatory systems.  She was a member of the Management Board of DAFM, its Internal Audit Committee, and chaired the Gender Balance Committee.  

Paula is currently a member of the Veterinary Council of Ireland and the Food Safety Consultative Council of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. She also provides support as a One Health Lead Expert to Sustainable Food Systems Ireland, an international consultancy group which offers technical assistance in all aspects of agri-food development and regulation. Paula graduated in 1982 with an MVB from UCD (NUI) and has since completed a Masters in Applied Food Science, a Certificate in Welfare, Ethics and Law, and a Certificate in Corporate Governance. 

Paula has been appointed to the PSI Council as a public interest nominee.
